The 2025 college football national championship game is to take place in Atlanta on Monday, January 20th. Ohio State used their dominant defense to take down Texas in the Cotton Bowl. In a back and forth battle, Notre Dame beat Penn State in the Orange Bowl. My picks to advance to the national championship game was a rematch between Big Ten rivals. My overall record heading into the college football national championship game is 86-33. The winning percentage is 72.3%, which means I’ll finish above my 70% goal. Ohio State will try to win their first national championship since that great 2014 team led by Ezekiel Elliott. Notre Dame haven’t won a championship since 1988. Who will leave Atlanta and become the new national champion?
Coming into the season, the Buckeyes were thought to have one of the best defenses in the country. They finished the season by only allowing a little over 12 points per game, which was the best. Notre Dame finished second in the country by allowing a little over 14 points per game. Both offenses finished in the top 10 in scoring also. Ohio State and Penn State can score on you and prevent you from scoring also. The Fighting Irish depend more on the run than the Buckeyes. Riley Leonard can beat you with his arm and legs. Leonard threw for over 2600 yards while rushing for a little under 900 yards. Jeremiyah Love, Riley Leonard and Jadarian Price have rushed for at least 700 yards this season. Can the Irish keep up this pace against Ohio State? The starting left tackle Anthonie Knapp will miss the game.
Will Howard and the Buckeyes offense is top tier also. TreVeyeon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins are two of the best backs. While having Henderson and Judkins should be enough on offense, you must worry about Jeremiah Smith. Smith is the talented freshman receiver who put up over 1200 yards receiving in the regular season. Can the Irish defense slow down Smith? If so, Notre Dame will still have to worry about Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate. Both Marcus Freeman and Ryan Day are outstanding coaches. At the end of the day, it will come down to both quarterbacks limiting their turnovers. Leonard had a pair of picks and threw one himself. Riley Leonard will face more pressure due to Knapp missing the game at left tackle. The defense of Ohio State will exploit that, and they will win the national championship. Buckeyes Win 24-20
