Trav’s Week 12 College Football Picks
Week 11 is in the books, and man it was an eventful one. First off, the Miami Hurricanes suffered their first loss of the season. The Canes went into Atlanta and was upset by the Georgia Tech 28-23. Georgia went to Oxford, Mississippi and were blown away by the Rebels. Ole Miss took down the Georgia Bulldogs 28-10 in a defensive masterpiece. Indiana remained undefeated after edging Michigan 20-15. The Hoosiers have their bye week and then head to Ohio State for arguably their biggest regular season game. In one of the most anticipated clashes, the Crimson Tide manhandled LSU on the road 42-13. Iowa State and Pittsburgh continued their downfall by dropping their second in a row. Both teams lost their first game a week ago, but now both teams are unranked.
My Week 11 picks garnered a 7-2, which makes my overall mark 56-22. My winning percentage rose a little from 71% to 71.8%. This week I’ll be predicting a total of five games. Check out Trav’s Week 12 College Football picks below.
We start things off with this pivotal SEC matchup. The 6th ranked Tennessee Volunteers will head to Athens to battle the 11th ranked Georgia Bulldogs. Tennessee is tied atop the SEC with Texas and Texas A&M with all of them having one loss. The Vols have one more SEC game and they control their own destiny to reach the SEC Championship game. Tennessee will use that smothering defense to force the Bulldogs into turning the ball over. Georgia didn’t show up in Oxford last week seeing how the Rebels dominated them. Carson Beck is a turnover machine, and the running game is nonexistent. The defense is still one of the best in the country when they’re not on the field all the time. It seems like Georgia is set up to lose, but I’m picking them to win. Bulldogs Win 24-20
We stay in the SEC with another top 25 matchup. The 24th ranked Missouri Tigers will head to South Carolina to face the 23rd ranked Gamecocks. Missouri is one of five teams in the SEC with a pair of conference losses. The Tigers rebounded from being shutout by Alabama by defeating Oklahoma. The offense could struggle against the tough Gamecocks defensive line. Connor Tollison, the center for Missouri will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury. South Carolina enters this game on a 3-game winning streak. After losing two in a row, the Gamecocks is playing some of the best ball on both sides of the ball. The defense is giving up an average of 12 points a game and scoring almost 36 a game during those three games. I’m on the South Carolina bandwagon and think they will win. Gamecocks Win 27-17
We head to the ACC as the 17th ranked Clemson Tigers head to Pittsburgh to face the Panthers. Clemson is still trying to find their way into the ACC Championship game. They are tied with Miami for second place with one loss. They both are trailing SMU, and this could be the only way the Tigers get into the playoffs. Clemson rebounded from their loss at home to Louisville with a win over Virginia Tech. This is their final ACC game as they look to earn a berth in the title game. Pittsburgh won their first seven games, but now has dropped their last two. The offense was scoring almost 40 a game but combined to put up 44 in the last two. Can the offense find their mojo against the Tigers? I’m going with Clemson to win on the road. Tigers Win 30-21
We head to the Big 12 as the 20th ranked Kansas State Wildcats host Arizona State. The Sun Devils have flown under the radar as they enter this game with a 7-2 record. The Arizona State offense can put up some points with their explosive offense. The defense is about in the middle of the pack but gives up big plays. Arizona State can still make some noise in the Big 12 seeing they have BYU and Arizona to finish the season. Kansas State had their four game winning streak snapped in Houston last week. The loss may have taken them out of the Big 12 Championship hunt. The Wildcats possess one of the best running games in the country. Can they get back on track with a win against the Sun Devils? I’m riding with Kansas State to rebound. Wildcats Win 27-20
We head back down to the SEC as the 3rd ranked Texas Longhorns head to Arkansas to face the Razorbacks. Texas is sitting comfortably atop the SEC alongside Tennessee and Texas A&M. They still have a couple of conference games remaining after this one. They control their own destiny after finishing the season against Kentucky and at Texas A&M. The Longhorns looked like the team they have been most of the season last week against Florida. Can they continue that momentum? Arkansas is coming off being blown out by Ole Miss. They are coming off their bye week and hoping to come up with a game plan to slow down the Longhorns. Is this something they can do especially at home? Texas should be good until they meet the Aggies at the end of the month. Longhorns Win 38-21
