Trav’s Bash in Berlin Premium Live Event Review
The WWE took the trip across the pond for their premium live event. It has been something they’ve done over the last couple of years. They land in Germany for the Bash in Berlin, and it’s highlighted by Ginther defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton. Cody Rhodes put up the Universal Championship against Kevin Owens. The Unholy Union defended their Women’s Tag Titles against Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair. C.M. Punk and Drew McIntyre took their feud to new heights in a Strap Match. Damian Priest & Rhea Ripley took on Dirty Dom & Liv Morgan in a mixed tag match. WWE looks to be sticking to the five-match format for their premium live events. Let’s see how the Bash in Berlin Premium Live Event turned out.
Cody Rhodes put up his Universal Championship match against Kevin Owens in the opener. Owens stood by the side of Rhodes as he fought against the Bloodline. Cody said that to thank Owens, he’s granting him a championship match. This was a great match between these two. It was mind games being played after Owens stated that Cody’s knee was banged up. There were instances where Owens should’ve been the new champ, but he refused to show his intense side. Rhodes said he was good, and they both have nearfalls throughout the match. Rhodes kicked out of the Stunner and Owens kicked out the Cross Rhodes a few times. In the end, Owens went for the Swanton, but Cody got his knees up. Cody hit the Cross Rhodes again to finally pin Owens to retain. Winner and Still Universal Champ: Cody Rhodes
Match Rating: 4.5/5- This was an amazing match between these two. It seems like Solo is getting Rhodes for the title again. With Owens contract situation, where will this lead him next?
Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn, known as the Unholy Union, defended the Women’s Tag Titles against Belair and Cargill. Fyre and Dawn won the titles at the Clash at the Castle event, but didn’t pin the champions. Bianca and Jade have been on a mission to get another championship match ever since. They tried to double team Bianca from the start, but Jade made the save. Bianca did most of the work for her team as they held her at bey for a while. They all continued to fight when Bianca tried to hit the KOD to Dawn. Fyre accidentally hit Dawn when she was holding onto Belair. Jade and Bianca then finished off Dawn with their combo finisher to win the tag team titles. Winners and New Women’s Tag Champs: Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill
Match Rating: 3.5/5- It was a good match, and we have Belair and Cargill as Women’s Tag Champs again.
We had the Strap Match between C.M. Punk and Drew McIntyre. This feud started when McIntyre injured Punk at the Royal Rumble back in January. Punk has cost Drew the World Heavyweight Championship a couple of times. In the first match between these two, McIntyre defeated Punk at Summerslam. Drew attacked Punk before the match started and before the referee put the straps on them. Drew attached Punk to himself after the beatdown and then the match started. They beat the hell out of each other throughout the entire match. Drew had the match won after touching three turnbuckles, but Punk stopped him and hit the GTS. Punk hit a couple more GTS’s after seeing the bracelet while touching three turnbuckles. After getting the bracelet, he touched the final turnbuckle for the win. Winner: C.M. Punk
Match Rating: 4/5– This was a great match between these two. It wouldn’t surprise me if they fought one last time at the Bad Blood PLE.
We had the mixed tag match between Ripley & Priest against Dom & Liv. Rhea and Liv have been feuding ever since Liv injured Rhea after WrestleMania. After that, she went after Dom and even helped the Judgement Day until Ripley returned. At Summerslam, Dom turned on Rhea and helped Liv retain her championship. Later that night, Finn turned on Priest and cost him his championship against Gunther. This was like any ordinary mixed tag match, but the rest of Judgement Day got involved. It felt like Rhea & Priest would lose, but they continued to fight. The crowd went crazy when Ripley finally got her hands on Dirty Dom. JD distracted Rhea from finishing off Liv, but made took him out. Rhea hit the Riptide in the end to pin Morgan to pick up the win. Winners: Rhea Ripley & Damian Priest
Match Rating: 3.75/5- This was another good match and man Rhea is a massive star. The crowd went crazy for her and Priest also. Will Rhea finally get her rematch against Liv at Bad Blood? Will Priest finally get a match with Finn also?
The main event saw Gunther defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton. Gunther won the championship at Summerslam about a month ago. Orton was his first challenger because he beat Orton to win the King of the Ring to earn the championship opportunity. Gunther won the match, but the referee didn’t see Orton’s shoulder wasn’t pinned. The crowd was electric for this contest, and it made it so much more special. They beat each other down in this technical matchup. It was crazy to see Gunther kick out of the RKO. Orton backdropped Gunther from on top of the steel steps through the announce table. After delivering elbow strikes and Orton breaking the hold, Gunther locked in the sleeper hold. Orton eventually passed out and Gunther retained. Winner and Still World Heavyweight Champion: Gunther
Match Rating: 4/5- This was another great match at the Bash in Berlin card. Gunther and Orton shook hands after the match.
Overall Rating: 7.5/10– Bash in Berlin was another amazing premium live event. I’m still not a fan of the five-match card, but they all continue to deliver. Below are my top 5 happenings from the Bash in Berlin premium live event.
