OG Anunoby Signs 5-Year Max Deal to Stay in New York
The New York Knicks are going all in for next season. They traded for Mikal Bridges last night and they weren’t finished making moves. They have now signed OG Anunoby to a 5-year deal worth $212.5 million. The Knicks acquired Anunoby in a trade at the start the 2024 calendar year, sending out RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley as New York was looking to get bigger on the wing. Anunoby helped the Knicks tear through the competition in the weeks after landing in New York, as the team went 12-2 in the 14 games he played before both he and Julius Randle suffered injuries against the Miami Heat on Jan. 27. Anunoby dealt with an elbow and hamstring issue this past season. Those injuries lead him to missing an ample number of games. This deal was announced hours after Bam Adebayo signed a 3-year extension to stay in Miami.
OG Anunoby averaged 14.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in 50 games between the Knicks and Toronto Raptors this past season. Anunoby was one of the leaders that helped lead the Knicks to the Eastern Conference semifinals. The injuries piled up, but they fought and next season you must consider them one of the favorites in the East. Anunoby is considered one of the league’s best perimeter defenders. Across the 33 games he played for New York in the regular season and playoffs combined, the Knicks went 27-6. With Julius Randle returning and trading for Bridges, they are a legit threat to Boston.
